As an enthusiast of fine art I have spent many years visiting art galleries around the country, especially in Cornwall. Although I get a great deal of pleasure viewing art it has often struck me that most artists I see are fairly established if not already very successful. I remember the first time I visited a graduate show, it was amazing how refreshing it was to see artists at the very beginning of their careers. The art was raw and unpolished and the work on show wasn't selected for it's commercial value but as a demonstration of what art can be like when you take financial considerations out of the equation. Instead of producing pieces using subject matter that was likely to appeal to the market, these artists were breaking ground with new original ideas. I remember thinking it was a shame that there was such a gap between art of this type and art that is sold in private galleries.
NEW (ad)VENTURE are bridging that gap. They are a group of young emerging painters, photographers and illustrators who's work displays originality and resonance. The work is thought provoking and emotive and retains that purity that is often so hard to come by. This show is a real demonstration of unconventional Cornish art and is a must see for anyone who longs for the rawness and passion often lost by artists with long CV's.
NEW (ad)VENTURE will be touring their show throughout the year in various venues across the South-West and in 2006 we will be introduced to several new artists in NEW (ad)VENTURE II whos first show will again be held here.
