‘The criticism of modern art is a natural result of the freedom given to the artist to render his individual view. I consider the barometer of the opposition to be a healthy indicator of the depth of the individual expression. The more hostile the criticism, the more encouraging for the artist.'
Marcel Duchamp
The focal point of this project has been the mafia and the public's preconceptions of the mafia. The media often portray the mafia as comical, lovable characters that give them quite a positive persona. This media portrayal makes us forget that gangsters are murderers and criminals involved in money laundering, prostitution and drug dealing.
Mafia terms and quotes are a major feature within my work.
Holes in the models represent gun wounds. Nails protruding out of the models highlight their evil.
This is a playful outlook on the Mafioso and the characters of who work within these dark circles.
I like working with restrictions, using a limited number of materials, creating physical restrictions i.e. working blind or with my hands tied behind my back. I am currently working on a project based on hindrance. This project is performance-based, resulting in sounds, pictures and 3d works.
