When I go into my studio, despite having intentions, what and how I paint is very dependent on how I feel. I am constantly experimenting with different media and processes, and the content and context of the paintings can vary enormously.

Significant forms such as the circle and square etc. are recurring motifs, representing on the one hand, architectural/ technological constructs, or conversely mystical/spiritual pseudo religious symbolism.

Within the context of abstract painting the work is often metaphysical, in that my responses to the environment are interpreted, translated, metamorphosed and go beyond the confines of realistic/expressionistic topographical representations.

Metaphor and Mantra is an exhibition which derives its title and content from my affinity with the landscape and the deeper spiritual aspects of my life

The work needs to be contemplated and I hope will have a healing, calming effect, bringing some inner peace and tranquillity.

The paintings are a result of years of experimentation, exploring various synthetic media and natural elements, substances and processes; often these are alchemically integrated and intuitively deployed using conventional and improvisational painting techniques.
