Steve Brown
I was born in Porthtowan, Cornwall in 1969. I am a self-taught artist whose work is focused around the human form and its relationship with the forces that surround it.
The primordial nature of the North Cornish coast is a great influence on my work, its powerful presence a constant reminder of our own fragility, and short history by comparison.
I try to introduce new approaches and materials to my work in an effort to increase accidental and random elements within my paintings. The figurative elements are taken from life studies and digitally manipulated photographs, which are used to exaggerate movement within composition. For more impossible contortions I draw without reference, giving rise to some of my favourite pieces, which are less constrained and purer in sentiment.
The last two years I have spent travelling, surfing, filming in France, Morocco, California, New Zealand, Australia, and Bali. These experiences are now in the process of being formed into paintings.
