Toby West
"This work was an attempt to reflect upon the superfluous vision of humans, more specifically how I absorb and remember my natural surroundings. I wanted to represent the conscious and unconscious aspects of human vision and our interaction with nature. I felt if I could merge aspects of the photo-real and the abstract into one image the work may begin to touch on my concepts.
To make one of these images a role of film is wound through the camera on one exposure, which can last from 3 to 30 seconds, this allows varying levels of control over the composition and aesthetics. I refer to the work as motionscapes as they are constructed with both a moving camera and film."
Please note that the above images only show a detail of the actual piece, the photographs themselves are too large to show here.
