My work is process led in that I take sustenance from the dialogue that occurs when paint is applied to the canvas.

This approach is one born of experimentation. Acrylic, cellulose and enamel paint is applied with brushes, sprayed, poured, and syringed. Often I lay a canvas on a large turntable this allows me to get more precise control in creating circles. Each substance and method brings its own characteristics and qualities; the concern with the properties of material is something I find interesting.

The shapes in the latest work have become more specific, harder edged and with the use of spray paint, more 3 dimensional. This has allowed me to explore the internal space within. Arcs, crescents and circles are strong fundamental forms and it is these I find the most engaging. Gestured marks combine with geometric fact, a meeting place to engage the viewer's subconscious mind.

I find inspiration in many things from advertising imagery to the structure of flowers or the shape of a building against a sky. It's when I can see the forms and colour combine to create a visual impact and strength that ideas are sparked. Titles therefore are meant to act as markers of association rather than indications of intent.
