"The boundaries for artistic
license are ever widening, as the line between Contemporary and
Conceptual appears increasingly blurred. Contemporary Visual Art
does not seem to find its present delineation in figurative painting.
However, I continue to find aesthetic value in the figure.
I believe there is still call for
exploration into a subject that, although intimately known by us
all, often suffers neglect in preference of other, more seemingly
ground breaking material.
Using flesh as my prime inspiration,
I explore the apparent association between physical closeness and
emotional warmth. Nudity has the ability to produce a sensual intimacy
between viewer and subjects of a painting. However this intimacy
is made to feel slightly clinical as any emotive aspect of the painting
has to be read from body language alone.
The figures are the prevalent aspect
of the paintings, as the backgrounds, rather than being an addition
to the narrative are more an extension of the emotional level of
the human component."
