Fragments

... and then through a farmstead, all gates and protesting sheep dogs, to a high moorland place.

We found the stones in the lee of Sharp Tor with an expanse of marshland beyond.

...and counted the remains of no fewer than four circular structures spread out among the rocks and sheep...

We wandered around the quiet place with a holy reverence as we considered their children and their lives tumbling out of the dwellings.

And we considered their songs.

And we considered their cares.

And we considered their ceremonies, so alien,
and the near naked bodies and the brown spongy bones,
given up by the ancient peat bogs of these northern lands.

Lindow Moss, Nebelgard Fen, Tollund and Graubaile.

We recalled their names

Back through the farmstead we closed the gate on the angry dogs,

returned to our own lives

and considered our own mortality...
