Karen Howse
Karen's pieces spring from a mood or
feeling for a journey or place, her surroundings of North Cornwall
provide much inspiration. Karen takes photographs and makes quick
sketches, all of these references and memories help shape her work.
Karen uses varied materials; twigs, metal, paper, seedpods, slate
and found objects form part of the piece, fine fabrics are bonded
and stitched over to create rich surfaces and free machine stitch
is used to draw with.
Hanging within their own painted box
frames, the work has the feel of an icon or shrine rich in colour
and meaning.
