Esther Hawkins

"I am currently in the third year of a Photography Degree at Falmouth College of Arts, which is giving me the opportunity to make the kind of imagery that I really want to make. The themes that I am currently working with at the moment are fantasy and mythology using the female form. I have been doing a lot of self-portraits for this project, which has been very challenging. I am fascinated by theatrical makeup and costume and want to continue using these themes in my work.

The work in this exhibition is very different in comparison to the work I am undergoing at college because the theme is the landscape. I wanted to make very abstract, beautiful images, which gave the normal themes generally seen in the landscape a little twist. These images along with my other work carry a little fantasy in them.

I constantly try to challenge myself as an images maker because I feel that if it comes to easily to me I lose my passion for it quickly. I like to challenge the audience too by making abstract photos because I think it is important to give them something new and interesting to view."
